In 2017 I shared Favorite Book Features on my favorite books. This year I started a new series—features on my favorite authors! I’m going to return to my favorite books shelf and look into some of my favorite authors. I’ll share about their books I’ve read and why they’re an awesome author. Today’s featured author is the prolific Margaret Peterson Haddix!

Favorite Author Feature: Margaret Peterson Haddix

Margaret Peterson Haddix grew up on a farm in Ohio. She graduated from Miami University and was a journalist before focusing on her own stories. She now lives in Columbus, Ohio with her husband, and they have two grown kids. Haddix is the author of over 40 books for children and teens, and has won many awards for her writing. She was my first favorite author.

Haddix’s first novel, Running Out of Time, was the first book I remember truly loving and reading over and over. When I was in eighth grade, she came and spoke at my school and talked about how cool it is that she gets to tell stories for a job. And that was when I decided that that’s what I wanted to do with my life too. I walked up to her after her presentation and shyly told her that she was my favorite author and asked her to sign my books.

I have loved many of her books, with Running Out of Time and the Shadow Children series being my favorites. These books are still on my favorites shelf today. Haddix is so skilled at making her books suspenseful, quick reads that are appealing to all ages. I like her books now just as much as I did when I was in middle school.

I got the chance to meet Haddix a second time in 2016 when she came to Dayton for Children of Exile’s book launch. I got to go up to her and ask her to sign the dozen other of her books I’ve collected since first meeting her in eighth grade. And I got to tell her that she made me want to write, and then, ten years later, my first novel was about to come out. Haddix is one of the friendliest and personable authors I’ve met, and I highly recommend all of her books!
